Config option: BCC for all sent email messages

suggested by Unknown User

Hi

I would like to propose a simple feature - a config option for a BCC email address. To be able to direct all sent email messages by Sirportly to a single mailbox for archiving purposes.

All I need is a single BCC email address inside the SMTP account setting in sirportly.rb file, this should not be hard to implement :)

Regards
Michal

  • You could do this using a macro i think

  • Even if so I would like to get all messages get archived using a feature "outside" the Sirportly system. Single line BCC:<address> in an outgoing mail would work well.

  • In the mean time, you could use the system MTA to accomplish this. For example, Postfix has an "always_bcc" option.

  • OK, this is something I'm using right now. For testing and setting up the the config every mail sent by SP is being moved into a single mailbox on a dummy mail server.

    For production use is more complicated in our case, we host our mail "outside". I will check again with our service provider about BCC option for SMTP. I've asked this some time ago and it was not possible.

    How is your Sirportly instance sending email? Do you have an MTA installed locally on the server running Sirportly or are you making an SMTP connection directly to the service provider hosting your email?

  • We are using SP Download Edition

    Testing: SP => dummy-postfix-with-no-external-access
    Production: SP => hosted-mail-service => Internet

    The postfix installation is on a separate machine and it has a simple config with "SMTP accept all", "send it all to a single mailbox" and no external access (is not sending mail outside). This allows me to see everything SP is sending both internally and to the "contacts" in one place using all mail clients available for checking the compatibility issues.

    You could set the production Sirportly to use a local Postfix installation with the always_bcc option enabled and then have it smarthost through your service provider.

  • Thank you for this info, I do know this is an option also. I would like to keep the chain of the mail delivery system to absolute minimum.

    The ALWAYS_BCC in the SMTP config of Sirportly would make my life easier. I think other users could also benefit from this tiny piece of additional code.

  • This was previously raised as an issue for the cloud version at https://community.atechmedia.com/topic/192-preservation-of-electronic-information/ , was said to be on the roadmap by Jack Hayter but remains an issue as far as I know.

    Is this on the list of planned updates?

  • I do not have any info if this option is or will be planned

  • I would like this feature included in Sirportly as well. It is currently blocking adoption for trialing Sirportly.
